We are a medical research organization based in the North Okanagan, British Columbia. Our work focuses on developing biomarkers for the targeted treatment of pregnancy complications—improving prognostication and preventing unnecessary interventions. We believe in calling upon broad external expertise to design solutions that are locally relevant, clinically meaningful, and grounded in the realities of our region.
Our initiatives are rooted in deep collaboration: between universities and health authorities, across disciplines, and with national and international partners. By building research capacity and cultivating strong academic and clinical networks, we aim to improve patient care across the North Okanagan and beyond.
To improve care in pregnancy by advancing precise, population-informed diagnostics and treatment strategies—delivered through strong, collaborative systems of research and care.
To develop and implement predictive biomarkers that support targeted treatment of pregnancy complications, using interdisciplinary research and broad external expertise to deliver meaningful solutions for our local population.
We aim for specificity—to reduce iatrogenic risk and personalize treatment for pregnant patients.
We foster partnerships between universities, health systems, and industry to strengthen care pathways.
Our work is designed with the needs of the North Okanagan in mind, including challenges like transportation, displacement, and distance.
We draw on national and international networks to inform locally grounded solutions.
We are committed to developing highly qualified personnel and strengthening biomedical expertise in our region.
Our current focus is on maternal diabetes—specifically, predicting adverse maternal and fetal outcomes to guide early, targeted interventions. By developing biomarkers with and for our population, we aim to prevent complications and avoid unnecessary interventions. In parallel, we are:
Our long-term goal is to create a community of researchers, clinicians, and partners working together to improve outcomes in pregnancy through locally adapted, evidence-informed approaches.
We’re piloting cross-institutional pipelines to evaluate the logistics of using frozen placental tissue for glycomic analysis, ensuring sample integrity and feasibility for future biomarker studies in maternal diabetes.
We are using gene expression, histopathology, and glycomics to deeply characterize the placenta in maternal diabetes and uncover how it contributes to the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.
We are advancing lab-based models of placental glycosylation using human cell lines. These controlled systems allow us to study how glycosylation changes under different metabolic conditions related to pregnancy.
We are launching early-stage clinical research to explore how glycosylation patterns in maternal blood may signal pregnancy complications and support the future development of targeted diagnostics.
Founder and Clinical Pathologist
Dr. David Grynspan is a practicing pathologist at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. With specialized training in pediatric and perinatal pathology, his work focuses on placental changes in complicated pregnancies and how these changes can be used to guide more precise, evidence-based care. Dr. Grynspan brings deep expertise in developmental biology, pathology, and translational research to his role as founder. His vision is to improve maternal and fetal outcomes through rigorous, population-informed science that bridges the gap between research and patient care in the North Okanagan and beyond.
This organization was founded with support from Dr. David Grynspan, a clinical pathologist in the North Okanagan with a vision to advance precision diagnostics in pregnancy care. We are grateful for the early collaboration and infrastructure support from:
Our work is further supported by ongoing partnerships with national and international research teams who share our commitment to translational, community-informed science.
We welcome inquiries from researchers, clinicians, students, and community members interested in advancing pregnancy research and improving maternal-fetal outcomes.
